Pfc. Denisha Montgomery, assigned to the 139th Military Police Company and deployed to Germany from Fort Stewart, was found dead in her barracks room in Wiesbaden on August 9, 2022. Her death is currently under investigation by the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division. Speculation surrounding her death has emerged online, leading to a statement from U.S. Army Europe and Africa urging people to refrain from posting unverified information on social media platforms.
A GoFundMe campaign titled „Justice For PFC Denisha Smith“ was initiated by Crystal Dye, who described Montgomery as a 27-year-old mother of three young boys. Michelle Lynn Espinoza, who claimed to be Montgomery’s aunt, alleged in a Facebook post that the soldier had been attacked by other soldiers two weeks before her death and had planned to file a report upon returning to Fort Stewart. Both Dye and Espinoza were not available for immediate comment.
Officials from USAREUR-AF have not disclosed the preliminary cause of Montgomery’s death or provided further details on the case, stating that the investigation is ongoing. Montgomery’s death has raised concerns and triggered online claims of foul play.
