The Berlin Airlift involved pilots flying various aircraft from Wiesbaden Army Airfield to Berlin’s Tempelhof Airport, delivering essential supplies such as food, medicine, and coal. Over 28,000 airlift sorties were launched from Wiesbaden during the 15-month operation, totaling 326,137 tons of supplies delivered. American and British aircrews flew almost 280,000 flights, covering 92 million miles and carrying 2.3 million tons of supplies to keep the beleaguered city of Berlin alive.
